Shopify POS Integration Guide

Introduction

Extend your giving experience to your in-store shoppers with our Shopify POS integration!



As an organization, you’ll be able to contribute the same donation percentage on eligible products OR a fixed amount donation on the total cart to a cause you and/or your shoppers support. 

  • Example:
    If you give a 2% donation on any eligible product, then the same will happen at Point of Sale

Moreover, if you are letting your customers choose which cause to support online, they will have the same experience in-store. The same goes for if you are defaulting donations to a cause YOU set online, your in-store transactions will do the same when the POS Store Donations campaign is “on”.

  • You'll also now be able to invite your shoppers to join you in your giving back initiatives to causes they care about by rounding up their purchases, making an even bigger impact, together!

Please note: Shopify has announced that after 9/30/2022, the Shopify POS application will no longer support devices on iOS 12.5 or below. You will remain able to utilize the application, however no further bug fixes or app updates will be provided on outdated iOS versions.

 

Overview

Below is a guide that explains the 3 main sections you'll use for POS in your ShoppingGives Donation app:

 

For a Limited Time...
  • In this component, we are highlighting important information regarding how POS transactions are billed. We are releasing this feature for free for all locations to our merchants. POS transactions will be treated just like online transactions. Learn more about our billing here.

  • POS Store Donations on Purchase
    • This section serves to enable you to activate giving at POS. When you Turn On POS Store Donations on Purchase, we will begin processing transactions from Shopify POS according to your giving experience set in Global Settings. Your POS app will support the same causes that your online store is set to support.
    • You can always see how much your organization is giving back on purchases by heading to Campaigns > Store Donations on Purchase
    • While your shoppers can search for & support their favorite cause on your online store when the "search bar" is enabled, the "search bar" is not supported in our Shopify POS integration experience.
  • POS Customer Round-up Donations 
    • This section serves to enable you to activate customer-funded giving at POS.
    • When you Turn On POS Round-Up Donations, we will begin processing transactions from Shopify POS according to your giving experience set in Global Settings. Your POS app will support the same causes that your online store is set to support.
  • Locations
    • This section should look familiar! We have pulled all of your POS locations into our settings page so that you are aware of the locations that will have the ShoppingGives donation app live when you activate your POS Store Donations on Purchase.
    • In the future, you’ll be able to deactivate giving at specific locations. 

How to Activate

In order to successfully launch giving at Shopify POS we’ve broken out the tasks & steps you need to take in order to succeed: 

 

1) Add the ShoppingGives tile to your POS grid

  1. Open your Shopify POS app
  2. Tap on Add Tile
  3. Tap on App
  4. Tap on ShoppingGives
  5. Select the ShoppingGives - Select a Cause app under “Actions” by tapping on it or tapping on Add to Smart Grid

 

2) Activate Store Donations on POS

  1. Open your ShoppingGives donation app
  2. Navigate to Campaigns > Store Donation on Purchase
  3. In the “POS Store Donations on Purchase” section, turn the campaign on

    Remember: Your point of sale transactions will be treated just like your online store transactions and will mimic the same giving experience settings as your online store.

 

3) Activate Customer Round-Up on POS

  1. Open your ShoppingGives donation app
  2. Navigate to Campaigns > Customer Round-Up
  3. In the “Point of Sales Customer Giving” section, turn the campaign on

    Remember: Your point of sale transactions will be treated just like your online store transactions and will mimic the same giving experience settings as your online store.

4) Tell Everyone About it!

  • Educate your store associates on the POS ShoppingGives donation app experience with this training guide
  • Showcase the featured causes your customers can support with their purchase OR the cause your organization is supporting with in-store marketing materials (posters, pop-ups, QR codes, stickers)
    • Not only will this encourage shoppers to purchase during their visit, but will increase awareness of the possible causes they can support when they reach checkout.

This is an important step to ensure that your shoppers know exactly how much is being donated to a cause on your behalf! 

FAQ

  • Q: How are Shopify POS transactions billed?
    A: Same as online transactions! There are no extra or hidden fees to use our Shopify POS integration. We are offering all locations for free.

  • Q: Will activating the Shopify POS integration enable the ShoppingGives donation app on all my point of sale devices?
    A: Yes! We are offering free usage of our ShoppingGives donation app at all POS locations affiliated with your Shopify store. When you turn the campaign on and add it to your smart grid, your store associates will see the ShoppingGives app available at their location.

  • Q: I have the Point of Sale channel as a Sales Channel on my Shopify store but I am still being prompted to “Activate the POS Channel” in the ShoppingGives donation app, what do I do?
    A: The way our app determines if your POS channel exists or not is by checking if any Point of Sale transactions occurred in the last 30 days. Just click the “Activate the POS Channel” button and head back to your Shopify tab to start giving, you can ignore the new tab that opens up after clicking the button since you already have Shopify POS.

  • Q: Can our POS shoppers add on their own donations to their purchases?
    A: This is possible if your organization is defaulting donations to a cause you set. This feature is only available on our Impact Plus or higher plans. Visit our pricing page for more information.

  • Q: I don't have access to Apps on Shopify POS so I can't add the ShoppingGives tile to my smart grid, what do I do?
    A: You'll either have to ask your store owner for the Apps Point of Sale permission or ask them to add the ShoppingGives tile to your Shopify POS instance.
  • Q: Do I need to enable both Store Donations on POS AND Customer Round-up on POS?
    A: No, it's totally up to you and your giving strategy! You can opt to turn both "on," or one or the other!
